SAY GOODBYE, DEAR DARLING!

Sometimes words run out.
The quiet ticking of the clock seems deafening.
Everything seems to stand still.
Meanwhile the world goes on in a huge whirl.
One life has ended.
One life of adventures, experiences, pain, sadness, disappointment, but also of rediscovery, of love, of home warmth, has come full circle.

What’s left are the memories and the bitter pain…
The pain of loss that burns so hard when a piece of your heart is suddenly torn away. Yet that heart is also full of gratitude – gratitude that we were allowed to create and feel these shared memories.

Our sweet Kalli went to sleep between the arms of her loving guardian. When she came into our care in February last year, we never dreamed we would leave her in this way.

Kalli came to us from Koeru, was quietly adjusting to life in the cat room and all seemed hopeful. Until… Until this winter, when Kalli’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse. After several clinic visits and treatments, it was clear that she needed a more homely environment.

A few months ago, sweet Aire took Kalli under her wing, giving her a second chance. It was the first time Kalli, a former street cat, felt the warmth of home. The first time she felt a real sense of security and unconditional love.

Although initially the move to the shelter had a positive effect on Kalli’s health, a few weeks ago there was a change in Kalli’s health. We asked for your help so that we could provide Kalli with treatment and pay the clinic bills. We asked for another chance. We asked for more time – so that the home life we had waited so long for wouldn’t end. So that Kalli could still feel the warmth of home. So that they could still create memories together, memories they could both hold in their hearts.

And we did. Thanks to you, we gained a few more weeks. But for Kalli, they were invaluable. She was able to experience what it means to live in a home environment. What it means to be cared for and loved. What it means to be able to give your heart to someone and have them give you theirs in return….

Yesterday the time was up.
Kalli left for her forever in the land of kittens.
There are only fragments left in my heart, but the memories remain. Memories that Kalli will always remember warmly in kitten land. Memories that a broken-hearted shelter can mourn with comfort.
